Learn about beekeeping
Honeybees are amazing creatures. I have been educating people about honeybees since 2014. I became a county inspector for the Ohio Department of Agriculture, and it made me realize that new beekeepers struggle to get started. As I was inspecting and helping to educate beekeepers, this sparked the idea to form a local beekeeping association. When we are asked about getting started in beekeeping, this is the first place we send them. We feel that beekeepers learn better from one another. Gallia County Beekeepers offers both lecture and hands on learning. To join, contact us and we can get you meeting dates, times and location.
Mentoring
We love to teach new beekeepers and help them with their bees. We do not do direct mentoring. We offer inspections and consultations either over the phone or in person. We also offer the opportunity to go with us to check some of our bees in our bee yards. This gives you the ability to see how we keep our bees, what we are looking for when we check bees, and how we manage our bees.
Outreach
Are you a teacher, 4-H advisor or community organizer? Reach out to us to have us come to your event and talk about honeybees, pollinators, and honey. We have a large collection of teaching tools, presentations and an observation hive.
